Vera's Story: Our Journey Through Separation Anxiety

How our beloved labradoodle inspired us to create Veranxiety and help other dog owners navigate the challenges of canine anxiety

Meet Vera: The Heart Behind Veranxiety

Vera the labradoodle on the sofa

By Georg & Sara

We have a 2-year-old dog named Vera who's currently dealing with separation anxiety. As dog owners going through this journey ourselves, we understand firsthand how challenging it can be.

I think only those who experienced dog separation anxiety can relate and understand how tough it is. This app is for us.

I'm tired of apps made by people and venture capitalists looking to get even thicker wallets. I'm tired of apps that overpromise and do too much but provide little value. We made this app because we want to help others solve the same problem we are dealing with. We want the app to be as good as possible, and we built it ourselves.

If you cannot afford the app, you can send me an email or dm me on our discord and we will find a solution!

From Personal Challenge to Helping Others

As we work through Vera's separation anxiety, we realized there must be many other dog owners facing similar challenges. We wanted to create something that would genuinely help people in our situation.

That's why we built Veranxiety - a simple, focused tool to help track and manage dog separation anxiety. We're not backed by venture capital or a large corporation - just two dog owners who want to make a difference.

Our goal is to create a tool that provides real value without overwhelming features or false promises. We're building the app we wish we had when we first started dealing with Vera's anxiety.

Ongoing Journey

Continuing to improve Veranxiety while working through Vera's separation anxiety journey.

Approaches We're Trying With Vera

Practice gradual departures - Starting with very short absences (seconds to minutes) and slowly building up over time. We're beginning with just stepping outside for a few seconds, then coming back in with no fuss.
Create positive associations - We're trying to give Vera special treats that she only gets when we're leaving to help her associate our departure with something positive.
Keep departures and arrivals low-key - We're working on not making a big deal about leaving or returning home, which we hope will help Vera stay calmer during transitions.
Establish a safe space - We're creating a comfortable spot for Vera with her favorite blanket and toys where she can feel secure when we're away.
Consistent background noise - We're experimenting with playing classical music or white noise to help mask outside sounds and create a calming environment.
Regular exercise before alone time - We're finding that a tired Vera seems to be a calmer Vera. A good walk before leaving appears to help reduce her anxiety.

Our Approach

"We believe in a gentle, consistent approach to separation anxiety training. Every dog is unique, and our goal is to help you track progress and celebrate small victories along the way."

— Georg

"We're building this app because we want to solve our own problem first. We're not trying to build a unicorn startup - we just want to create something genuinely helpful for dog owners like us."

— Sara

"If you cannot afford the app, please reach out to us via email or Discord. We want to help as many dogs and owners as possible, regardless of financial situation."
